Rewind: Using modern technology to revive vintage music media
The cassette tape is an iconic staple of physical music media – however – it is sadly subject to ageing, damage, and wearing down over time. Not the most durable objects, I sought to overcome their obsolescence by digitising my cassette collection through 3D modelling, audio recording, and creating a website that could house a curated digital playlist of tapes.
As the user scrolls down the page, the 3D cassettes turn. and spin, revealing all aspects of their design. A hero animation showing the cassettes being withdrawn and turning around displays all 12 of the 3D models that I created for this web project. When clicked, the cassettes play a 30s sample of recorded audio from a tape player.

As my second project related to cassette tapes, my aim was to push my digital skills in animation, 3D modelling, and web design. I also used Adobe Audition to arrange, edit and export my audio files from recording the cassettes. As my first experience using these different softwares, this project was a fascinating way to explore my music interests as well as learning new design skills.
