Marx Memorial Library
About
A cohesive identity for MML, with a focus on diversity and inclusivity in visuals. This includes considering a distinct style with typography, colour schemes, and iconography that reflect the themes of overlooked voices and untold stories.

Shifting away from the image of Marx into more diverse archives
The Marx Memorial Library has a rich history of sharing knowledge, hosting political figures, and being a beacon for socialist change-makers. Situated in Clerkenwell Green, London, the location is the one thing that has remained constant.
Our team, Re:Think, aimed to highlight interconnections between MML’s archives, as well as celebrate its location, using a concept of threads linking MML to the local community.

Shifting away from the image of Marx into more diverse archives
Using threads as a recurring motif, we created a dynamic re-brand appealing to young adults and students, including an engaging social media presence. These threads become a physical part of future MML’s installations, posters, activities, and a signage system across the building. The colour scheme pays homage to the traditional ‘communist red’, but pairs it with a strong and fresh green, with black as an accent colour to draw more attention.
Shifting away from the spotlight on Marx himself, we instead focussed on highlighting other collections — such as women’s rights, Black liberation, and the history of colonialism — aiming to generate new discussions.
